Industrial radar sensors

High-performance radar sensors for reliable detection in challenging environments.

Industrial radar sensors by AUMOVIO Engineering Solutions provide robust object detection, tracking and environment perception for industrial automation, robotics, and intelligent transportation systems. Based on proven automotive radar technology, our sensors deliver accurate distance, velocity, azimuth and elevation data in environments where cameras, lidar or ultrasonic sensors reach their limits.

Whether you are developing autonomous mobile robots, automated guided vehicles, collision avoidance systems, infrastructure monitoring solutions, traffic management systems or smart industrial machinery, our radar portfolio offers scalable solutions from short-range monitoring to long-range detection.

Why radar technology?

Industrial radar sensors transmit radio waves and analyze the reflected signals from objects in the environment. Based on these reflections, the sensor can determine key object characteristics such as:

  • Distance to the object
  • Relative velocity: approaching or moving away
  • Azimuth angle: horizontal direction
  • Elevation angle: vertical direction, depending on the radar type
  • Radar cross section (RCS): indicates how strongly an object reflects radar signals. The RCS depends on factors such as the object’s size, shape, material, and orientation, and can help distinguish between different types of targets.

Unlike cameras, radar performance is independent of ambient light and remains reliable in rain, fog, dust, smoke, darkness and harsh industrial conditions. This makes radar a valuable sensing technology for outdoor, industrial, and mobile applications. One of the key advantages of radar technology is its ability to directly measure relative velocity using the Doppler effect. While cameras typically estimate speed by comparing object positions across multiple images, radar sensors determine the speed of moving objects directly from the reflected signal. This enables accurate velocity measurements even at long distances.

Depending on the sensor model, radar data can be provided as:

  • Radar detection interface (RDI) data
  • Tracked objects with object classification information

This information can be integrated into automation systems, robotics platforms, traffic monitoring solutions, and autonomous vehicles to support environmental perception and decision-making.

Typical applications

Collision avoidance

Radar continuously detects vehicles, equipment, objects, and obstacles around moving machinery, enabling timely reactions and improved maneuvering in dynamic environments.

Mining equipment

Radar helps monitor large operating areas around haul trucks, excavators, and other heavy machinery, improving object detection in dusty, dirty, and low-visibility environments.

Construction machinery

Radar detects workers, vehicles, and obstacles around mobile equipment such as cranes, loaders, and excavators, supporting efficient operation on busy construction sites.

Port automation

Radar enables the detection and tracking of containers, vehicles, and moving assets, supporting automated cargo handling and logistics operations in outdoor environments.

Smart machinery

Radar sensors provide real-time information about object position, movement, and distance, allowing machines to adapt their operation to changing conditions.

Production automation

Radar can monitor material flow, detect objects on conveyor systems, and track moving assets, helping to optimize automated manufacturing processes.

Railway systems

Radar supports train and infrastructure monitoring by detecting objects, vehicles, and obstacles on or near tracks, as well as monitoring level crossings and rail traffic.

Infrastructure monitoring

Radar can monitor roads, bridges, tunnels, intersections, and other critical infrastructure by tracking movement, traffic flow, and object behavior over large areas.

Perimeter surveillance

Radar continuously monitors defined areas and detects moving objects over long distances, supporting intrusion detection and site monitoring in all weather conditions.

Presence detection

Radar identifies the presence and movement of people, vehicles, or objects, even in low-light, dusty, or visually obstructed environments.

Traffic analytics

Radar measures vehicle count, speed, direction, and movement patterns, providing valuable data for traffic management, optimization, and infrastructure planning.
