Leading with responsibility means driving change across our industry and communities while shaping a more ethical future. At AUMOVIO Engineering Solutions (AES), women play a vital role in this transformation and are a powerful force behind our innovations.

To celebrate the contributions of AES’ women engineers, we are sharing insights from just a few of them who are helping lead meaningful and lasting change within our organization.

Yu Sun, Head of AES Market China

“There will be moments when you are the only woman in the room. Don’t be afraid, be confident.”

What made you enter the field of engineering?

“To be honest, part of what pushed me was the challenge itself. I was told engineering was not for girls. I entered to prove to myself—and hopefully to others—that passion and capability have no gender.”

What is the most exciting part of your job?

“Engineering can be challenging, but it’s always exciting to see a concept sketched on a whiteboard turn into something real. In my role as a manager, it’s especially rewarding to watch the team grow and develop.”

What is your message to the next generation of women engineers?

“There will be moments when you are the only woman in the room. In those moments, you might feel pressure to blend in, to speak like everyone else, to not stand out. Don’t be afraid, be confident.
The team needs you to be you.

Alia Hall, Head of Strategic Growth and Marketing - Business Development

“To the next generation of women engineers: engineering shapes our future, and it deserves to be a truly equal playing field.”

What made you enter the field of engineering?

“Engineering allowed me to blend my love for art with my passion for math. From a young age, I knew I wanted to design cars—and I wanted to be as skilled as the best German engineers. That dream took me to Germany at 18, where I pursued my mechanical engineering degree with a focus on automotive design.”

What is the most exciting part of your job?

“Today, the most exciting part of my work is creating unexpected connections—bringing customers from industries outside automotive together with our experts. That cross‑pollination of ideas is where real innovation happens, and it’s where I see technology accelerate in ways that move entire industries forward.”

What is your message to the next generation of women engineers?

“To the next generation of women engineers be brave and be yourself. Walk confidently into rooms where you may be the minority—and invite more women to walk in with you. Engineering shapes our future, and it deserves to be a truly equal playing field.

Georgina Demertzi, Senior Functional Safety Engineer

Your thoroughness isn’t pedantry—it’s your superpower. Don’t shrink your standards to make others comfortable.”

What made you enter the field of engineering?

“I was fascinated by how things work—and more importantly, how they fail. Plus, someone needs to make sure safety-critical systems aren’t designed by people who do not consider all users.”

What is your proudest moment professionally?

“Contributing to convince leadership to embed functional safety into our product roadmap from concept phase, not as a compliance afterthought. Now we are contacted by clients because they trust our safety-first approach. Strategy meets engineering!”

What is a piece of advice you wish you had received when you started working?

Your thoroughness isn’t pedantry—it’s your superpower. Don’t shrink your standards to make others comfortable. Also, document everything since memory is unreliable, but your meticulous notes will save your credibility.”

Linda Ammar, Senior Engineer

“Focus on continuous learning, seek feedback often, and remember that growth in engineering comes from both successes and mistakes.”

What made you enter the field of engineering?

“My journey into engineering began at home. My father works in the engineering field and growing up, I was constantly exposed to the way engineers think—solving problems, building things, and improving how the world works. I was fascinated by how things function and how they can be designed better. That early exposure played a big role in shaping my path and ultimately led me to pursue engineering as a career.”

What is your proudest moment professionally?

“One of my proudest moments professionally is realizing that I am often the youngest person in the room during technical discussions or project meetings. Being in those rooms pushes me to continuously learn, contribute confidently, and prove that dedication and curiosity can earn you a seat at the table, regardless of how early you are in your career.”

What is a piece of advice you wish you had received when you started working?

“Asking thoughtful questions, staying curious, and being open to learning are some of the most valuable traits you can bring to a team. My advice to anyone starting out is to focus on continuous learning, seek feedback often, and remember that growth in engineering comes from both successes and mistakes.
