Celebrating ethical choices during the European mobility week

Moving smarter together — small changes, big impact.

Every September, Europe celebrates the European mobility week — an initiative encouraging citizens and organizations to explore cleaner, smarter, and more ethical ways of moving.
The goal: to question our daily travel habits and discover how small changes in mobility can make a big difference for the planet.

At AUMOVIO Engineering Solutions, this initiative has found a special resonance thanks to Marie-Nathalie Larue, Head of Production Solutions France. Years ago, when working in a smaller organization, Marie-Nathalie launched her own Mobility Challenge — a week-long experiment asking colleagues to leave their cars behind and embrace more ethical modes of transport. Today, that same spirit thrives across AUMOVIO Engineering Solution’s Toulouse site, uniting employees in a friendly, impactful challenge.

“Sustainability begins with curiosity — with the question: Could I do this differently? The Mobility Challenge is not about restrictions, it’s about discovering new ways to move, connect, and act responsibly together." — Marie-Nathalie Larue, Head of Production Solutions France, AUMOVIO Engineering Solutions

The challenge: one week, no car

From 18 to 22 September 2025, AUMOVIO Engineering Solutions employees — joined by teams from other AUMOVIO business areas at the Toulouse site — took part in the challenge: spend an entire week commuting without using a personal car. The goal? To emit as little CO₂ equivalent as possible during daily home-to-work journeys.

Participants were encouraged to test alternative modes of transport:

  • Walking or cycling for short distances
  • Electric scooters, e-bikes, or hoverboards for mid-range trips
  • Public transport such as buses or metro
  • Carpooling to share emissions — and conversations

Behind the scenes, Marie-Nathalie, supported by Délia Loupias and Moulika Phok, carefully tracked everyone’s daily entries in a shared form. Each participant logged their commute distance and mode of transport. By comparing this data with what their typical car commute would have consumed, she calculated who had saved the most fossil energy.

It was a mix of math and motivation — a tangible way to visualize how everyday choices add up to meaningful environmental impact.

Friendly competition, lasting impact

While a small prize awaited the official winner, the real reward was collective: fewer emissions, more exchanges, and a renewed sense of community.

By the end of the week, participants had collectively saved a significant amount of fossil fuel — proving that ethical mobility isn’t just possible, but enjoyable when shared.

Beyond the challenge, a movement in motion

The mobility challenge embodies the company’s broader sustainability vision — that engineering change begins with small yet tangible actions. By engaging employees through practical, measurable initiatives, we continue to promote responsibility not only in technology but in daily life.

This initiative echoes the European Mobility Week’s message: ethical mobility is not about grand gestures but about rethinking the small routines that define our days. As Marie-Nathalie reflects, “Each journey we make differently is a signal of change — a step toward a more conscious, connected, and resilient future.”
